M1 Leeds: Recap after motorway closed near Wakefield due to a serious collision with miles of congestion

The M1 northbound was closed near Wakefield for a number of hours earlier due to a serious collision.
The road was closed between junctions 38 and 39 for Huddersfield and Wakefield since before 6am this morning (Sunday).
Police carried out investigation work throughout the morning and traffic was diverted off of the motorway as over two miles of traffic built up.
National Highways said just before 3pm that the road had reopened.
