Two families will play an annual football match to raise money for a hospital that saved a Headingley mum's life.

The Nelsons hope to extend their three-year winning streak over the Hallinans on July 5 - and help raise £3,000 for the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.

The challenge dates from when Catherine Hallinan of Headingley had a lung transplant at the hospital in 2005.

Daniel Rodgers, Mrs Hallinan's son-in-law, will be playing on the Weetwood pitches near Leeds Metropolitan University.

He said about the match: "It's just to raise as much money as possible to donate to a very worthwhile charity. I think we are the biggest charitable donation for the last three years.

"She was really on death's doorstep and she is in her fourth year now." Daniel, from Horsforth, runs Advanced Debt Solutions in Stockport, who will once again be contributing £250 to the hospital.

He hopes this year's match will raise £3,000.

Refreshments will be provided on the touchline, and there will be a penalty shoot-out after the game. Trophies will also be handed out after the match to the winning team, the man of the match and 'duffer' of the match..
