A Headingley businessman has put his hand in his pocket to buy two new mountain bikes for neighbourhood police.
Martin Wolstencroft is managing director of three bars The Arc, Trio and The Box.

For a number of years has chaired the local Pubwatch group which works together to discuss how to encourage safe and sensible drinking and builds bridges with police.

Neighbourhood Policing Teams already use his premises for training sessions and he is also involved in projects promoting the safe and sensible use of alcohol.

Mr Wolstencroft offered to pay for two mountain bikes to complement the four already used on the streets of north west and north west inner sections of the North West Leeds Policing Division.

The bikes paid for by Mr Wolstencroft will be used by members of the team covering the Headingley ward.

The mountain bikes enable officers to go where police cars cannot and they make police responses significantly faster than officers on foot patrols.

Mr Wolstencroft said: "As a restaurant and bar operator it is our responsibility to support the Neighbourhood Policing Teams in as many ways possible and work in partnership with them to promote responsible drinking and to reduce anti-social behaviour.

"Donating the bikes is our way of giving something back to the community."
