We will pubish the lot.The selection of the 10 areas follows a review of the 28 town and district centres in Leeds – using pointers including the size of retail centres, environmental sensitivity of improvements, supply and demand, safety implications and public concern – as part of plans to develop a city-wide parking blueprint.
More in-depth local studies will be combined with talks with local communities and ward councillors to assess what improvements and investment needs to be made.
Further talks will also be considered in the other remaining 18 centres to measure the public's opinion on what improvements could be made.
Councillor Andrew Carter, executive board member responsible for city development, said: "The provision of parking facilities is an essential part of the successful regeneration of our town and district centres and this strategy will complement our multi-million pound investment designed to improve them for local people.
"The issue of parking is best planned as part of a city-wide approach which can be adapted to suit the needs of individual towns and districts which will help to ensure that the infrastructure needed for improvements is in place as soon as possible.
"The next step is to concentrate efforts on the top 10 priority areas and to ensure that local communities and ward councillors in all 28 areas are consulted on how they think parking provision should be developed in the future."
The review will include looking at how many short-stay and long-stay spaces are provided, how much more parking is required and where they should be situated.
It is recognised that short-stay spaces, which suit shoppers and passing trade, help benefit the local economy while long-stay spaces, often used by commuters, do not.
