Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch was asked about the club’s interest in Red Bull Salzburg captain Maximilian Wober following the Whites’ 0-0 draw against Newcastle

The American had previously stated his desire to avoid discussing the transfer window this month and remained somewhat firm in his stance by limiting his response to a question regarding the Austrian defender. Leeds have been linked with a permanent move for the Salzburg skipper who can operate at left-back or in central defence. United are keen to address their long-standing issue at left-back and Wober appears to have been identified as a solution.

"I'm not addressing that,” Marsch said following his side’s St James' Park stalemate.

“If and when that comes, we'll talk about it,” he added. The pair worked together during Marsch’s time in Austria, winning back-to-back Austrian Bundesliga titles in 2020 and 2021, as well as lifting an ÖFB Cup during their first season.

The 24-year-old represented SK Rapid Wien, AFC Ajax and Sevilla before joining Salzburg in 2019. He replaced experienced figure Andreas Ulmer as club captain towards the end of last season and has prior experience playing alongside Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen for the perennial Austrian champions.

Marsch was just as brief in his response to questions surrounding Mateusz Klich’s future, who made his thirteenth substitute appearance of this Premier League campaign on Saturday afternoon. The Pole has rarely featured for longer than 30 minutes at a time, but was Marsch’s first change against Eddie Howe’s men.

Klich is of interest to Major League Soccer outfit DC United and despite Marsch’s insistence that the 32-year-old has a future at Elland Road, could feasibly depart this month.

“We still like Klichy,” Marsch began. “I'm not going to comment on his future right now, but his commitment to be here right now has been great.”

Klich’s Elland Road contract expires in the summer of 2024 and given his waning influence on first-team affairs throughout 2022, may perceive a fresh start as imperative to continuing his career at the top level.

For now, though, Marsch is remaining tight-lipped on incoming and outgoing transfer business, although Leeds are expected to be active in some capacity during this window.
