THE CHALLENGE:

Participants drink a pint in each pub – they can be allowed two 'breaks', during which they can switch to spirits.
* A 'shotley run' means downing shots instead of pints.
* Some people actually run between pubs to make it more difficult than it already is.
* People wanting to die an even earlier death drink snakebite (half lager, half cider) instead of normal beer.
* People normally set off mid-afternoon, but others have been known to start at 11am.

THE FIRST EVER SOBER OTLEY RUN

The first ever sober Otley Run – albeit a 'fun run' – took place on Sunday, March 9, 2008, organised by York St John's University graduate Louise Rigg, 23, from Harrogate.

She said: "I knew about the Otley Run, of course, and decided to create the first ever Otley fun run. Ours is more of a hop, skip and jump around some cones rather than a bar crawl but at the end we are asking people to donate the price of a pint to Alcohol and Drug Services in Leeds.

"It would be nice to see it turned into an annual event but someone else might have to organise it next year."
